MEET LORNA MASEKO
Lorna Maseko has risen to prominence in the South African market and is now poised to showcase her talents, tenacity, and taste on an international stage.
Beginning her career as the first Black prima ballerina to grace South African stages, Lorna’s journey to global recognition took flight as she toured internationally with the company, marking a critical step in her ascent.
Transitioning seamlessly into the culinary world, Lorna quickly became a household name across Africa, earning accolades as an award-winning celebrity chef. Her culinary prowess shone on the inaugural season of Celebrity MasterChef on DSTV, where she impressed as one of the final six contestants. Inspired by this experience, Lorna launched “Cooking with Lorna and Friends,” a series of culinary events that captivated food enthusiasts nationwide.
In 2016, Lorna expanded her repertoire into television hosting with “Top Chef: South Africa” and later produced and hosted “The Hostess with Lorna Maseko,” a lifestyle reality series blending food and entertainment. Her debut cookbook, “Celebrate with Lorna Maseko,” released in 2018, received international acclaim and earned two Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. Lorna’s television career continued to flourish, garnering a Taste Award in 2021 for her shows “Lorna with a Pinch of Salt” and “The Hostess with Lorna Maseko.” Breaking barriers, she made history as the first woman of color to grace the cover of “House & Garden” magazine, solidifying her status as a cultural icon and trailblazer.
In March, Lorna will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Taste Awards, a prestigious honor recognizing her outstanding contributions to the culinary world. Recently completing the second season of her acclaimed BBC Lifestyle show, “Homegrown SA,” Lorna is also hard at work on season two of “Celebrating with Lorna Maseko” for Recipe.TV in the United States.
Beyond her culinary achievements, Lorna’s passion extends to philanthropy, as seen through the launch of the Bophelo Foundation dedicated to improving school nutrition in South Africa and beyond.
As an author, television personality, and cultural icon, Lorna has shattered barriers and become a symbol of hope and aspiration for Black women worldwide. Her drive for creating unique culinary experiences continues to inspire audiences globally, cementing her place as a true exemplar of Black excellence and innovation in the culinary realm
